UN rebukes Kenyan treatment of refugees

Some 8,300 Somali refugees fleeing violence -- mostly women, children and the elderly -- were illegally being turned away at the border with Kenya, a UN official said Wednesday. A spokesman for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees reminded Kenya that it may not deny sanctuary to such people even though its refugee camps are reportedly overcrowded.
