EU will not budge on emissions trading scheme despite U.N.'s stance

The European Union is standing firm against criticism of its emissions trading scheme. The United Nations' civil aviation body, the International Civil Aviation Organization, has urged the EU to reconsider the scheme. "It is disappointing that ICAO discussions once again focus on what states should not do instead of what they should do to curb growing aviation emissions," said Connie Hedegaard, EU climate action commissioner.
