REIT index posts strong month in October

The FTSE NAREIT All REIT Total Returns Index climbed 13.3% for the month of October, besting the broader indexes. The Standard & Poor's 500 was up 10.9%, and the Dow Jones industrial average rose 9.5%. Investors are becoming more confident that a recession can be avoided, says Brad Case, NAREIT's senior vice president of research and industry information. "Investors were concerned in August and September that perhaps the uncertainty over in Europe might spill over into the U.S. economy and bring our current recovery to a halt," Case said. "I think those concerns have been allayed."
