EPA begins effort to update rules on hazardous waste imports, exports

The Environmental Protection Agency has begun work on revising the regulation of hazardous waste shipments between the U.S. and other countries. The proposal would require shippers to meet the criteria of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development on importing and exporting hazardous waste materials between OECD member countries. Shipments that do not fall under OECD requirements would need to comply with the general requirements of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act.
