The Pinellas County, Fla., school district is working to bridge the "digital divide" by distributing about 4,000 laptops to families with third- and fourth-graders at 36 low-income schools. The goal, officials said, is to expand learning beyond the classroom and to ensure that students who previously did not have access to computers at home have access to the digital tools provided by the district as well as discounted Internet access.
