FAA official encourages early adoption of NextGen technology

The FAA's director of NextGen integration and implementation says the federal agency has not done enough to communicate to industry the benefits of upgrading the nation's air traffic control system. With ADS-B ground infrastructure expected to be in place by 2013, Mike Romanowski wants to ensure that businesses understand the fuel and environmental savings they can achieve by upgrading before a proposed 2020 mandate. "We have not been good at communicating," Romanowski told the annual meeting of the Air Traffic Control Association. "Business needs better information for making investment decisions."
