Mary Ann Downey of the Institute for Creative Productivity describes five tactics that can help employers improve productivity and employee engagement during challenging economic times, including increased telecommuting, rethinking goals and objectives and modest team-building exercises. Now is not the time for elaborate parties or spa days, Downey said, but getting everyone together for a lunch or coffee and some small talk can boost morale. "Make sure your management team treats employees in a way that shows they are valued," she said.
