Ireland plans to accelerate drastic spending cuts

The Irish government will front-load $8.5 billion of a four-year, $21.3 billion deficit-reduction program into the 2011 budget, to win the confidence of the sovereign-debt market. The government said the change will keep Ireland's deficit for 2011 within 10% of gross domestic product and bring the gap down to 3% of GDP by 2014.
