Rep. John Mica. R-Fla., who is poised to take over leadership of the House Transportation Committee, says high-speed rail in his state will have to find private-sector backing in order to succeed. Florida has already won $2.05 billion in federal funds to pay for the 88-mile, $2.6 billion project. But Mica cautions: "The last thing we want is to build a dog that has to be highly subsidized by taxpayers."
