Progressive Democrat Bill de Blasio won a landslide victory in New York's mayoral election on Tuesday, beating Republican rival Joe Lhota by a margin of about 49 points. De Blasio's administration is being seen as a key test of progressives' ability to govern and to implement liberal ideals on a big stage. "Make no mistake: The people of this city have chosen a progressive path, and tonight we set forth on it, together," the mayor-elect told his supporters.
