Firearm injuries cost U.S. hospitals nearly $19B

Hospital costs from gun-related injuries between 2003 and 2010 amounted to $18.9 billion, according to a report presented at the American Public Health Association annual meeting. Data from the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project showed that more than 252,000 victims of gunfire were hospitalized for a cumulative 1.8 million days or an average of 7.1 days for every incident.
