Gene sequencing technique traces variants' origins to parent

Researchers affiliated with Ludwig Cancer Research have developed a gene sequencing method that can be used to distinguish whether a particular genetic variant originated from the mother or father. The HaploSeq technique opens doors in the use of personalized medicine by permitting more accurate evaluation of disease risk, the group's lead researcher said. The findings were reported in Nature Biotechnology.
