College applications must take advantage of technology to convey more than just grades and entrance-exam scores, James Werner, vice president of higher education at software maker DecisionDesk, writes in this blog post. New technology could allow students to use multimedia to highlight their academic successes and interviews could be done over the Internet to minimize travel costs. "As it stands, the application process fails both prospective students and schools by limiting opportunities to showcase individuality and character," Werner writes.
