India finance minister lowers estimate of current-account deficit

India can significantly improve on an earlier projection of a US$70 billion current-account deficit for the fiscal year, with the final figure likely to be less than US$60 billion, said Finance Minister P. Chidambaram. He also said the government and the Indian economy are now well prepared for eventual tapering by the U.S. Federal Reserve.
