Marine commandant urges force strength of 174,000

Gen. Jim Amos, commandant of the Marine Corps, said in an essay published in the U.S. Naval Institute's Proceedings magazine that a Marine force of 174,000 is necessary to provide the U.S. with the security it needs. That number is on the high end of the service's projected strength in 2016.
