Johannesburg startup SnappCab is looking to connect mobile users with metered cabs in a way that encourages more reliable rides at a lower cost. The service hopes to expand across the continent, with talks underway in Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya and Tanzania. "The idea here is to leverage the confluence of two major structural socio-economic changes: the first is the rapid increase in use of [and transacting on] mobile phones and tablets. ... The second major trend is the rapidly increasing demand for and use of public transport in the country," SnappCab's Anton van Metzinger said.
