Pittsburgh's "Big-Dig" begins on light-rail transit expansion

Digging starts this month on the massive, $435 million expansion of Pittsburgh's light-rail transit system. In what's being called Pittsburgh's Big Dig, the project will involve boring 2,400-foot tunnels through wet soil, sand and gravel, and keeping the dimensions within an inch of the proposed route.
