Washington state prison earns LEED status for new buildings

Four new buildings totaling 270,000 square feet at the Washington State Penitentiary have achieved LEED Silver accreditation. State law requires LEED Silver certification for all new construction projects financed by the state government. A sensor-controlled automated irrigation system reduces water demand by more than 50%, and low- or zero-flow equipment reduces demand for potable water by 20%.
