Dallas advances sustainability goals with new green-building regulations

Water preservation is a key factor behind Dallas' implementation of a five-year Dallas Green Building Construction Ordinance. The regulations require all new projects to adhere to the minimum certification requirements the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED program, the International Green Construction Code or Green Built Texas. The ordinance also specifies that 50% of waste material from construction projects be diverted from landfills, and 45% of the building components must be "recycled, recyclable, bio-based, or local materials."
