Pre-op liver assessment proves challenging in obese patients

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease poses challenges in obese patients being assessed for fibrosis ahead of surgery, according to research discussed at a liver health conference. Neither transient elastography nor acoustic radiation force impulse was able to identify the cirrhotic patient among 41 cases analyzed before and after a dietary intervention.
