U.S. softwood proposal mulled

The Coalition for Fair Lumber Imports plan would cap Canadian softwood imports at 30.5% of the U.S. market, while anything beyond that amount would be subject to a tariff. While Eastern Canadian lumber entities and builders continue to pan the proposal, the Canadian government, especially timber-heavy British Columbia, remain interested in negotiating a deal, a report says.
