Old media wants to get off The Street

Radio network Clear Channel and New York-based cable system Cablevision, along with major metro dailies The Boston Globe and the Los Angeles Times, are all targets of private-equity buyouts. Investors and executives at major old-line media companies are reacting to depressed stock prices caused by uncertainty over the direction of advertiser-supported TV, radio and print, and because of competition from the Internet.
