Training model offers classroom experience from day one

California's Reach Institute for School Leadership is offering a two-year credentialing program that puts potential teachers in front of classrooms on their first day, with a teacher-mentor alongside to guide them. "Universities do not do a good job, if they do anything at all, teaching students how to manage a classroom," said Terry Jones, a teacher-training expert. "With Reach, young teachers go into the classroom, have experiences, then come to a seminar where their coach can add theory to what they're learning first hand."
