U.S. offers more bird flu funding to Vietnam

Vietnam will receive an additional $10.5 million from the U.S. for aid against bird flu, $8 million of which will be put into the assistance program currently in place. Development of a human vaccine against the virus will be aided with $1.5 million, and the CDC will put $1 million toward technical assistance and support of the Vietnamese Health Ministry. Since 2005, the U.S. has spent $22 million in Vietnam for prevention and containment of bird flu outbreaks.
