Retail slowdown hits every price category

Retail activity at U.S. major chains hit a brick wall in October, a potential prelude to what could be the worst holiday-shopping season in decades. Luxury department store Neiman Marcus saw sales fall nearly 28%, but even discounters such as Wal-Mart Stores and BJ's Wholesale Club reported only feeble gains.
