Ariz. district considers value of out-of-state field trips

Students in Arizona's Peoria Unified School District are expected to take more than 100 out-of-state field trips this year, raising concerns over the cost and educational gains of such trips. Educators say they consider the expense and whether the trips are an "extension" of classroom learning during the planning process. The trips often are paid for through a combination of school fundraising and parents' contributions, which some say could be a heavy burden in a down economy.
