NCA: Sugar policy needs reform

"The current sugar program hurts our members as well as consumers," said Patrick Aylward, NCA's vice president of government affairs, noting tight supplies have driven raw sugar prices to a 30-year high. Smaller companies that can't buy in advance may pay higher prices or be forced to halt production, he said, urging an increase in the tariff rate quota to ease supplies when the 2008 Farm Bill expires and is replaced in 2012.
