NBPTS selects new CEO

Education advocate and former teacher Ronald Thorpe has been named president and CEO of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. About 90,000 U.S. teachers are National Board-certified, and the credentialing process increasingly has been part of policy conversations about measuring teachers' effectiveness. However, the organization also is being urged to consider students' test scores when evaluating teachers' applications for National Board certification.
