Veterinarian Shoko Watanabe, inspired to become a veterinarian by her father, also a veterinarian, treats pets that have cancer and she says that it's both rewarding and challenging. The AVMA reports that professional veterinarians in private practice, such as Dr. Watanabe, earned a median salary of $97,000 in 2009.
