Diabetic neuropathy linked to tear film parameters

Type 1 diabetes patients had lower tear lipid thickness, tear film stability and tear production compared with healthy controls, according to data presented at the American Academy of Optometry meeting. "A correlation between tear film parameters and total neuropathy score suggests that ocular surface abnormalities occur in parallel with diabetic peripheral neuropathy," said lead researcher Stuti Misra.
