Exec: Keystone XL permit process may be the new normal in pipeline projects approval

Energy companies planning to develop cross-border pipelines in the U.S. may face the same stringent review process that TransCanada is going through to gain approval for the Keystone XL proposal, said Alex Pourbaix, TransCanada's president of energy and oil pipelines. "I think it would be pretty naive to assume any future project certainly in the near future would be going through a significantly lower hurdle in terms of the presidential permit process," he said. Meanwhile, TransCanada CEO Russ Girling said he is confident the proposed pipeline extension will gain approval after the review process.
