One Health will provide answers to some of our most pressing public health questions

Close to three-quarters of emerging human infectious diseases are zoonotic, including pathogens such as Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus, SARS, monkeypox and West Nile virus, writes veterinarian Lonnie King, dean of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. King calls for a One Health approach to safeguarding human and animal health, including an integrated surveillance system. As animal and human health professionals merge their knowledge and resources, new solutions to emerging infectious diseases will arise -- and some are already underway, Dr. King writes.
