Starbucks pledges to hire 10,000 vets and military spouses

Starbucks is looking to hire at least 10,000 veterans and military spouses over the next five years as part of an initiative backed by Starbucks board member and former Defense Secretary Robert Gates. "These are highly skilled, highly trained people who have significant leadership capabilities, who will add value to Starbucks," said the coffee giant's CEO, Howard Schultz, in an interview Monday. Starbucks also will transition existing stores into "community stores" near Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Lakewood, Wash., and in San Antonio. The stores will give a portion of money from each transaction to local nonprofits that benefit veterans.
