U.S. economy grew 2.8% in the third quarter

America's gross domestic product ticked up 2.8% in the third quarter, the largest quarterly growth rate for a year, according to Commerce Department data. The results were markedly better than the 2% increase expected by economists. Still, consumer spending rose at a sluggish 1.5%, the slowest pace for more than three years.
