Team awarded $1.145 billion contract for New York subway extension

A construction team including Skanska Civil USA, Schiavone Construction Co. and J.F. Shea Construction Co. Inc. has been awarded a $1.145-billion contract to build a new 1.5-mile extension of the No. 7 subway line to the west side of Manhattan. The contract with the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority gives the team 57 months to complete the project, which will include boring a 21.5-foot diameter tunnel through mostly hard rock.
