NRC needs at least a month to decide on B&W safety issues

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will need at least four to six weeks to determine whether to penalize Babcock & Wilcox for "apparent violations" in safety and reporting emergencies, officials said. The issues stem from an incident in which uranium was found in an area without safety checks at the company's Mount Athos plant in Virginia. Should the agency decide to take action against B&W, it could impose fines or heightened oversight.
