CDC: Improving HCV monitoring will benefit public health

A CDC study comparing 2008 hepatitis C data from the National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System and the Emerging Infections Program found that EIP listed more acute HCV cases than the NNDSS and that there were differences between the average period between diagnosis and case reporting. "These findings underscore that enhanced surveillance for acute hepatitis C improves the completeness and timeliness of the data," the researchers said.
