Federal group talks about using provider directories to facilitate HIE

A federal work group last week discussed different possibilities for using directories of health care providers to make it easier for hospitals to obtain important patient information from other facilities or clinics. Specifics on how the directory model will work are still unclear. One idea is to have one centralized directory that will cover all of the U.S.; another idea is having different directories within the states.
