Insurance industry waits to see what Congress does about taxes, regs

With a Republican takeover of the House in the books, the insurance industry is most concerned with taxes and a new group of state insurance regulators. Also important are the looming report from the Deficit Commission and how the derivatives language in the Dodd-Frank Act that calls for hedges on variable annuities go through a clearinghouse or exchange makes its way through the rule-making process. Life carriers say they are also focused on Congress' tax agenda.
