As the engineering industry goes global, international groups are working to establish accreditation standards that engineers can use to demonstrate their qualifications. Europe's EUR-ACE standard and the international Washington Accord standard are the two main systems used by engineers to practice across national boundaries; both groups' memberships are expanding rapidly, and the bodies are in talks to harmonize their standards. "When this happens, one system will blanket much of the globe," notes Reynaldo Vea. "It opens up a lot of opportunities for global professional practice."
