Offshore-rig inspectors should earn more, Bromwich says

The salaries for offshore-rig inspectors should be increased to raise their competence in the aftermath of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, according to Michael Bromwich, director of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement. The agency also needs more inspectors and to employ retired industry engineers to make sure that oil and natural gas companies comply with new drilling rules, he said. "We need to recruit and retain some of the best and brightest, and we need to make sure we can do that in the future," Bromwich added.
