Laser is pointed at 6 commuter jets at New York airport

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating an incident involving a green laser that was pointed at six commuter jets at New York's LaGuardia Airport last weekend. The number of planes hit by lasers rose sharply to 2,836 in 2010 from 283 in 2005. The FAA has asked Congress to pass a law that would make laser strikes a crime. It uses an administrative rule to punish individuals who aim lasers at planes.
