Before starting a job hunt, set a Google Alert for your name so you can see if anything unflattering about you surfaces on the Internet, Amy Kirkegaard writes. Make sure the settings on your social media pages are set to private and consider updating your profile pictures. "Ask a friend or family member to search for your name and see what they come up with," Kirkegaard suggests.
