Wyndham: FTC has no standing in dictating data protection

The Federal Trade Commission doesn't have the authority to regulate how companies deal with cybersecurity or how they protect data, according to attorneys for hotel company Wyndham Worldwide, which faces an FTC lawsuit related to a data breach at the hotel chain. "I'm not disputing that data security is an important issue. My quarrel is that the FTC is actually not the agency that's supposed to be doing it," said Eugene Assaf, a Wyndham attorney.
