EU to press WTO case against importing hormone-treated beef

The EU is preparing to press its case before the World Trade Organization that U.S. and Canadian beef treated with hormones should be banned from Europe, partly in response to recent fears of BSE. The EU also wants to restrict imports of GM foods, but the current fight is over hormone-treated beef. The EU adopted legislation banning six types of beef hormones after the EC issued a report claiming some hormone residue in beef could cause cancer.
