Survey: More students taking online college courses

The number of college students taking online courses grew by nearly 40% -- or 850,000 additional students -- between 2004 and 2005, with the increase seen in schools ranging from those offering associate's degrees to those with doctoral programs, reports a consortium of colleges committed to online education. The rise in enrollment numbers could stem in part, however, from the survey's counting traditional courses as online classes if professors posted class assignments online or held discussions in group forums.
