"Affordable luxury" shoppers rein in holiday spending

Although the luxury sector is optimistic for the 2007 holiday shopping season, the "affordable luxury" category is starting to feel the effects of a difficult economy on shoppers. Nordstrom reported an unusual 2.4% decrease in October same-store sales, and Polo Ralph Lauren lowered its profit forecast Wednesday, noting a "more conservative view of discretionary spending among U.S. consumers."
