Australia may overhaul online gambling regulations

Australia plans to modify its rules on online gambling to stem an estimated $643 million that Australians bet on offshore gambling Web sites. Australia allows online wagering on horse racing and sports betting but prohibits local companies from setting up online operations for table games. A report from the Productivity Commission recommended that Australia ease restrictions on local online gambling to capture additional tax revenue.
