Boeing, Airbus nearly tied in 2009 deliveries

Boeing Co. lags rival Airbus by just five deliveries as 2009 draws to a close, threatening to unseat the European company as the world's top plane maker for the first time since 2003. For the first 10 months of the year, Airbus delivered 399 jets, compared to 394 for Boeing, though Airbus leads in new orders by about 50%. Combined deliveries this year are expected to hit record levels, even as future orders suffer due to a deep downturn in the aviation sector.
