Judge: Teacher furloughs will harm students with special needs

A federal judge has said he will not halt Hawaii's teacher furloughs, although he urged a quick resolution to the matter. Before his ruling on lawsuits filed on behalf of the state's students, the judge said that students who have autism and other special needs were being harmed by the missed instructional days. An appeal is expected, and some say the lawsuits could lead to major education reforms in the state.
